Researcher uses Bayes Rule in Artificial Intelligence.
Daphne Koller, a researcher at Stanford, is creating a set of computational tools engineered to do tasks such as predict traffic jams, and understand the way cancer spreads. Her work is based off probability. It centers on the Bayesian formula for updating the probabilities of events based on repeated observations. This rule describes how to transform a current assumption regarding an event, with further evidence into a more accurate assumption. Ms. Koller research has increased Bayesian-related software. Ms. Koller is using her algorithms to understand patterns in collections of data. One area to use Ms. Koller’s theoretical work will be the emerging field of information extraction such as Web searches.
