When in class we spoke about the realities of job searching and how long-range random connections are more "profitable" than the closer ones, I realised that some job searching can happen even outside these so-called random connections and move towards homophilial networks.

This church and its jobseekers come together to find jobs that are suitable for each one's own job skills.

"Mr. Cardinale was a managing director at Bear Stearns until its collapse in 2008 and, after he was laid off, he set out to expand his professional networks.

One strategy included asking his pastor for permission to lead networking sessions at the church. The pastor agreed, and a self-help group was born."

This man has used homophilial strategy to expand his networks to eventually find a job for himself and the others around him. (He doesn't have a good track record - he is one of the managing staff that caused the collapse of a $ 30bn firm and lied to the public while doing it)
