Dark Side of Social Networks Empty Dark Side of Social Networks

This article discusses how hackers are stealing Facebook password accounts in order to scam people. It talks about a Colorado woman who's Facebook password was stolen and used to scam her friends by getting them to wire money. Her contacts received a message from her Facebook account asking them she and her family (the message even included the name of her daughter... all of which was found inside her account) were stranded in London and asked them to wire her money. Some of her friends tried to contact her over email and over the phone because they were worried, but one of her friends wired the money before contacting them through other means.

I chose this article because it shows how vulnerable social networking accounts are to hackers; people don't put much thought into the password they chose for these accounts because they don't contain their financial or critical information... but as seen from this article, the information posted in these sites is more than enough for hackers to steal our identity.

This is the article: http://cbs2.com/national/facebook.ID.theft.2.932433.htmlc
