In the April 14th edition of the New York Times, the cover article was a story about how Mexican drug cartels are buying guns in US states (Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona) where the purchasing restrictions are relaxed and consumer profiling is non-existent. The method used by drug lords is a simple process: "the drug cartels hire people in need of cash with no criminal records to buy guns from legal sources, often just one or two at a time." These people form local bridges from the gun stores in the US and cartels in Mexico. The FBI have an even harder job identifying these "people in need of cash" because they have a very weak tie to the cartel being investigated.
