another game theory example
Now i dont know if the rest of you play Starcraft, but i did the other day and knowing my opponents strategies (literally) i was intuitively able to construct a payoff matrix in my head. I was playing terran (humanoid) against my buddy who was zerg (monster) and we both had two options and they had their pros and cons (you'll see below).
He could develop his forces to counter my metal rush (which he knew was a well used card in my playbook), or he could perform a zerg rush and slow down my economy. I in turn could prepare for his zergling rush by accumulating marines and medics, or i could metal rush and have a few vultures by the time he hatches his 'lings. each of us would lose much more if we were caught with our pants down upgrading units.
BTW i ended up winning HOORAY.
zerg rush | develop forces | |
marines and medics | (-1,-1) | (0,-2) |
metal rush | (-2,0) | (0,0) |
